8E16 block Vin 8?202685
« on: November 22, 2017, 09:44:23 pm »
Picked up a block the other day for my 68 1/2 that is the same date as my original one that I can't get and thought I would share. It has an 8E16 cast date and an 8E21 assembly date. The vin stamping is faint but pretty sure on everything but assembly plant.

Very cool!  Do you have a picture of the VIN stamp that you could share?

Assuming it's from a Dearborn built 1968 1/2 Mustang, scheduled build date for 202685 would be the 4th or 5th of June.

Mike did snap a picture this morning before leaving it at the machine shop so when I get a chance I'll try to figure how to post it. Chris, I'd say you're pretty close as my 204632 was June 7th. I assume that nothing matching that is registered? I looked again and don't see much evidence of assembly plant. The next couple pieces of the puzzle should really raise some eyebrows. This block has the industrial plug like truck blocks and the distributor hole is bushed. How did this happen coupled with the vin?

Cool stuff :-)

Have you considered trying to order a Marti Report on it, assuming an "F" for plant?  Might have to go through a few iterations of VIN combinations before you hit the right one.  They will send a message if it is an invalid VIN, and ask you to double check it.
