50th Anniversary Show- 2018
« on: April 24, 2017, 08:03:27 pm »
I've been working in the background for a few weeks now, and I am happy to announce that there will be a 50th Anniversary Event in 2018.  The NMCA will be our host, at the SUMMIT MOTORSPORTS PARK IN NORWALK, OH.  It should be the weekend before Labor Day 2018, but stay tuned for actual dates.

It is still early, but I hope to identify a host hotel in the coming weeks. I hope to mirror some of the things we did in Carlisle, PA for the 40th. One change is to include all Cobra Jets, all makes (Ford, Mercury), all models (Mustang, Torino, Cougar, Cyclone, Shelby, etc.) all engines (428, 429, 351, 5.4), all years!

As I confirm information I will post it here and on other forums. NMCA will also be promoting it when they announce their 2018 schedule.

If you have ideas or suggestions post them, I'll consider most ideas.

Danny

Yes, I hope we will have some racing, too. I'm meeting everyone in person next weekend, so I'll know more in a couple weeks.

I think I have already made a mistake in the announcement. The show is planned for Norwalk, Ohio at the Summit Motorsports Park.

Sorry for the confusion! I'm changing the original post to reflect the correct location!

It's not ME you have to convince -- I'm all over a road trip!  The husband is the one who won't travel the distances for car shows...and it's a little far for me to drag my Mustang by myself.  If I could just drive the Coupe out, it wouldn't be as daunting a trip for me, but we all know what happened last time I drove the Coupe to Montana.  :o :-[ >:(

As Scott said, a lot of the things are still being worked through.  I met with the owner of NMRA/ NMCA in Maple Grove, he is excited to be our host and is looking forward to having the premier Cobra Jet Anniversary Show.  The dates will be August 23-26, 2018 in Norwalk, OH.  I will continue to post updates as they are confirmed!

See you in Norwalk!

Just letting everyone know the plans are moving forward.  Within the next 30-45 days we should be able to announce the Host Hotel and some of the extras planned for the reunion.  I talked with Dave Farley this evening about classes for the car show.  We are planning to have show awards both Saturday and Sunday to ensure we include the most participants as possible.

We hope to have a website or web page up soon announcing the event.

See you in Norwalk!

I was hoping for a stand alone show with only CJ cars .Mixing in with the NMCA will make us a small spoke in a big wheel. Waited 7 hours between rounds on Sunday 2 years ago at that show .

Anybody know if a later model Ford drag race car with FE power would be welcomed? I have a 78 Fairmont that I have been racing with FE power for 30 years, most of that with a 428 CJ.
I also have a 1959 Ford 2 door sedan with a 428 CJ and 4 speed Toploader. Obviously neither car came with the 428 CJs from the factory! (If it matters or helps, I have owned 5 69-70 R code cars). I plan to retire next year, and have been considering a long distance road trip, like either the FE Reunion in Beaver Springs PA., or maybe this event, which would be a bit closer.
28CJ powered Ford Fairmont drag car. ET:10.03@132mph
Have owned 5 "R" code Mustangs & Fairlanes over the past 25+ years.

Will someone in the know about this please advise.  I looked at the 2017 schedule and I am guessing that "our" part of the schedule here is really just Saturday?  Danny T. - do you know?

I ask partly because I have learned that the good hotels are either already sold out or are very expensive.   Minimizing nights in a hotel near the event would help the costs a lot.  Much as I would like to see the cars run on Friday, I would give that up to save $220 on a hotel room.
