CJ's at Indy
« on: September 03, 2011, 04:21:07 pm »
The new CJ cars run a variety of classes in NHRA. The Sat race results for the Stock class are posted for Round 3.    go to    http://www.nhra.com/results/default.aspx
Does anyone see a CJ driver there?
This year there were intense discussions over the Horsepower Ratings assigned to the new engines. The hemi challengers and the CJ's for example. The car makers will try and get NHRA to assign low HP numbers. Then if you can get all your boys to sandbag(run just fast enough to win), you can dominate. This year a Hemi car-David Barton_ ran all out- some 1.3 secs under the normal times- and had all the chrysler boys fuming. Next year those hemis will be rerated for HP. Lots of guys on the Class
Racer.com site are thanking him.

I for one would like to see the new CJ's and DP's in their own classes, we ALL know the cars are under rated and the real races are who gets off the gas the best, what a waste of great cars.LOL

#1 and #3 are new CJ cars I saw a guy run 8.65 at 156 yesturday and another soon after ran a 8.65 at 141 on the brakes .They are sandbagging big time. There must have been 12 to 15 CJ cars there.
had many 428 CJ and SCJ cars over the last 30 years.I currently own a 68 1/2 coupe and a 69 R code SCJ Coupe and a 70 R code SCJ Cougar Eliminator .I am looking for a 70 428 coupe if anybody knows of one for sale.

Same two last week were 8.28 at the CJ gathering. One DP owner went 1.3 something under and was slamed by the other DP owner for doing so, the underware is to tight in that crowd for me, I like to see what these cars can do.

Another interesting comment on the racer website- that in inspection teardown dealer mechanics were supplied (by the factories?) to do the wrenching- the factories are intent on getting publicity for these $100K cars. Sign of the times--
