Steve,
That is super impressive on those tires and rims.  You really have the car and your launch technique dialed in.

Here is a video link of a good pass even though it blew the head gasket at the 1000 ft mark. It has at least 3-4 tenths still in it http://www.youtube.com/user/PureStockDrags#p/u/11/peRmvJ7JCNw

Glad to read that your running your car.  Curious about the 60 ft. time.  Your running 4:11's and a close ratio trans?  What gear are you in at 60 feet and what are the rpm's?  At the end of the quarter mile and at 112 mph. what are the rpm"s?  I'm in San Diego, we have NO quarter mile tracks.  We do have two eigth mile tracks and I've been thinking about giving it a try.  I got my 69 a few months back and have been working on it ever since. I replaced the destroyed 4:11's with a 3:25 posi and am running the stock close ratio trans.  I don't know much about the motor, pistons, cam or valves, do know, CJ crank, rods and flywheel.  Solid lifter valve train on stock C80E-N heads and a 750 cfm Holley. Motor runs fine and seems to have plenty of power, gearing might be a problem  Thanks,  Brian

My car has a C6 in it.Its best mph is 110.8 at arround 6200 rpm in the traps. The best 1/8 mile time was 7.90 at 87 mph.I think a 3.25 gear may not be a good drag gear a 3.50 to 3.91 would be much better.Even with a lass than best gear you can still have a blast at the track.Less gear means less torque and possiby a bit easier launch but a bit less potential,Enjoy it thats what there for.Steve

Gotta be screaming at 6200 rpm's.  Thanks for the 1/8 mile time and speed.  Something to shoot for.  I knew that 3:25 rear-end would hurt me on the low end.  Thanks,  Brian.

I went out today and ran within a hundreth of my best but did it in 86 degree  88% humidity When I ran the 12.42 it was a November day 60 degrees no humidity .It is so hard this time of year to get the engine cooled down between runs,I know that is hurting things also .A 12.43 in the heat should get me in the 12.20's this fall in better air.I am  getting ready to have the trans gone through have the converter tightened up.Maybe a 12.20 something may happen before the temps get better. ;D

Hi Steve,
I'm planning on being there (Stanton) with Wayne. I think he's going to be driving a (cough! cough!) Corvette this year. I was hoping to have my 69 SCJ Cyclone done by then but it's not going to happen! Can't wait to see your coupe scream down the track.

Your car is even more impressive when you compare it to my 10 second, 10" Goodyear slick car's best 60' of 1.47. My 60' with a G70-14 would be 2.00 for sure , there is NO WAY I could get it to hook like yours. NICE job !!!!

Interesting read.  I ran my firebird in the pure stock drags in the mid 90's a couple times, back before all the F.A.S.T. stuff started.
I had a ball trying to hook with F70-14's.  It would 60 foot in the upper 1.80's without any suspension mods at all.  It just worked, but since it was unrestored everything was a little loose ;D   I still have the car but haven't raced it in a few years now.  I kind of got away from it when there were very few true pure stock cars actually running.  But it's kindled my interest again.

This is kind of the direction I'd like to go with the SCJ now.  But I'm thinking of stretching the rules a bit now.  Seems you are doing the same, with roller rockers and talk of restalling the converter.

I'm surprised you are still running the 2 1/4 exhaust system.  Back then they allowed up to 2 1/2 inch as long as it resembled the stock configuration, because I upgraded the bird at that time.
   Has that since changed?

I don't have roller rockers or even adjustables.I want to tighen up the converter for less slipage and more MPH .I have a 2 1/2 inch X pipe exhuast on it now the only change from last year beside oil and spark plugs. You really can't use much stall speed on the Polyglass tires and hook.I leave the line at 1100 to 1200 rpm and pedal it out.You got to get a feel for it and roll into full thotle as quick as possible.I have my car dialed in anybody can do it with so time and practice anybody that wants a hand I will try and help.
