The Border Bandits
« on: February 05, 2011, 07:09:25 am »
Some good old race cars just come to a horrible death in the case of the Barrie Poole/john Elliot 68 CJ fastback.  Shortly after it was sold in the early '70's, a mishap with the trailer hitting the shoulder caused a major wreck.  RIP :(

Sandy Elliot Ford, Linc, Merc was the dealership out of Chatham Ontario. Canada's number one Hi-performace dealer. John Elliot [on the left] and Barrie Poole [on the right].  They did outstanding in representing Ford and the 428 Cobra Jet powered mustangs and a few other fords at many drag racing events during the late 60's and in to the early 70's.

Heres one before it got hurt. Looks like a production car and not a 135 series lightweight.

Do you know what year the fastback got wadded up?? It looks like it has a Ford Motorsport front plate on it. Maybe mid to late 70's??

+1 on that Steve, I think you know first hand what Barrie can do with a CJ.   The fastback was sold in 1972 to a Dave Freeman, repainted that winter red with just the white stripes and added the "Consolidated Fastfrate" decal on the doors. The car got destroyed late Aug of 1973.  The 1969 CJ coupe is still alive and heard that it was being restored.

Thanks for the info... I think those cars are some of the neatest CJ racers out there. They are also in lots of advertisements and race coverage in all my old car magazines. I would love to see that coupe done..

Awesome pics. I bet that car ran at San Air and Napierville in Quebec.

A Thunderbolt met it's done in my area on it's way back from Napierville. I have no pics but the driver of the car found a comment left by me on a Tungerbolt site and emailed me saying he drove the car I had mentioned.
