2011 Fords at Carlisle
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:19:11 am »
So thinking that there is a 80% chance that the car will be ready to go, I was thinking of taking it this year... A few questions.
1. Anybody going?
2. Since I will be driving the mustang up, is it better to leave it at the field or at a motel?
3. If it is better to leave it at the field, how do I get to the motel/hotel?
4. Is there going to be a registry club tent this year to park near?
5. Since I have modern radio and speakers do I enter the 69 stock or 69 modified categories?
6. Any other advice for a first time show?

Normally I only go one day... Not actually sure how many days I'll be going or staying. Only a two and a half hour drive each way...

I'm definitely going to be there for at least one day, and yes, I was planning to pay ($275 last year, donations welcome!) for a tent again.  The tent could be free if we get 25 people to register, but we've never hit that number so I'm not planning on "free".  We'll get a small number of spaces near the tent, but you might want to park your car with the other cars in your class because there's no guarantee re: club tent location.

I didn't completely solve the "field or motel" question when I was last up there overnight.  I don't use a locked trailer so I drove the car to a motel, locked it down, covered it up, and didn't sleep much that night.  :-\ if you want to leave the car on the show filed you'll need to find someone who can give you a ride.  That's where the forum can be helpful!

I don't bring my car up there for trophies, so I park it, clean it up a little, and then enjoy myself.  It's not a judged show; trophies are by participant voting.  If you really want a trophy you'll probably need to be there for more than one day so that more people can see your car.  If you don't care about a trophy just park the car and have fun!

Sorry, I can't help with the class question.

So thinking that there is a 80% chance that the car will be ready to go, I was thinking of taking it this year... A few questions.
1. Anybody going?  We will be vendors at K46 K47 (welcome to bring that NOS 69 fender to resell)
2. Since I will be driving the mustang up, is it better to leave it at the field or at a motel? At the field -crap happens at motels
3. If it is better to leave it at the field, how do I get to the motel/hotel? Hopefully with a girl with a Mustang, but you can ride in a F350 if you need to
4. Is there going to be a registry club tent this year to park near? NO -tents blow down -park far FAR away from them
5. Since I have modern radio and speakers do I enter the 69 stock or 69 modified categories? Special class for cars with "3m treatment" on them - you will be sure to get a prize !
6. Any other advice for a first time show? For sale sign $100K !  If someone is "mad at their money" it can be yours !

I will be heading up.  I am hoping to make it up late Thursday or early Friday morning.  I will be driving up from TN.  Not bringing the car because it is no where close to show ready.  Dakota you still planning on heading up?

Still planning on it.  What are the dates for this again, 3-5 June?  I think this falls during my block leave after I get back from Afghanistan and I may be in North Dakota at this time.  Maybe I'll drag the wife and boy there on the drive back from North Dakota.

I'll be there Thursday thru Sunday, hanging with the Mach 1 Registry, parking with the Team Shelby cars, looking for 428 CJ Registry folks, and walking hour after hour through the vendor area looking for stuff I need and buying stuff I don’t.  :D

The deadline for $40 show field registration is May 2nd.  The cost goes up by $10 after the 2nd.  Register early and be sure to select "Mustang 428 Cobra Jet Registry" as your club!

If anyone has room to bring a small table and some chairs the tent will be much more useful (hint, hint).

Although I will not be bringing my car up, would it be better to register my car to boost the numbers for the registry?  Will it help in any way?

With 25 registered members we get the tent for free next year.  I just learned that we've got it for free this year because of last year's numbers.  So yes, there's a slight benefit to registering your car even if you don't bring it, but please don't feel any pressure to do that.  You'll save $20 or so by buying your tickets at the gate.
