428scj Cougar Convt. Raced by Eddie Merkel
« on: September 27, 2011, 10:57:36 pm »
I am looking for photo's or info on the 1969 Cougar XR7 428scj 4 Spd Convertable raced on the east coast by Eddie Merkel. I purchased this car several years ago and have managed to find only limited info on the car and a couple of pictures. The car left the factory white with a teal leather interior, but was raced at least some of, or maybe all the time wearing black paint. I am told it is the only one of six SCJs ordered with a 4.30 detroit locker. Any info, Photos or race record would be appretiated greatly.

Don: I will look and see if I might have a picture. Wouldn't be a locker that came in that car, no lockers in 69. Really cool car - have fun with that baby !

I'm pretty sure that I have a 69' Fastback R code that belonged to Ed, it was origionally a maroon GT. I purchased it from John Downing around 1980 in FL. It was black with a red side stripe on it, tubbed with ladder bars and the 1/4 extensions filled with lead with "BJC"(Bob Jenkins?) stamped in the lead when I got it.

yes his car was 69 sport roof not sure if true cj car. few racers had car that were changed over .
ed was a very nice guy traveled to the track in motorhome w/his wife most times. think his son who was older than me ran 1 of the cars to ,think he is still alive.

Saw this and asked some friends that ran stock way back if his son (Jeff) is still alive. They told me he is still around, not racing, and living in florida... Might be some place to start......    john
