I don't know where the engine is, but could you register the car when you have a chance? http://www.428cobrajet.org/register

I'm thinking that the unit number is too high to be from a Mustang. Maybe a full size Ford was the engines donor? Is there more numbers legible? Are these in good readable condition?

You are thinking right Grant. That is a 69 FORD Fairlane/Torino/Cobra mid size engine likely built late April to early May

If I remember correctly, A is for Atlanta so not a Mustang engine. 8M19 is 1968 December 19 so Kerry's date estimate pretty much fits the window. Since my SCJ cars are May/June Dearborn/NJ builds I had expected my block cast dates would be later than December 68. So I bought 2 May 69 blocks.
Kerry, did I goof up on my block dates? Sure seems like this is decent info that block lead times (at least for SCJ) were a bit longer than I had expected. Are his dates in range (apparently), on the long side or just an anomaly? Perhaps Atlanta sat on the engines, lower demand in the full size??
Sorry, a partial hijacked thread post.

Grant there were 4 plants producing the midsize Q and R code 428 CJ.
A Atlanta
H Lorain
K Kansas
J Los Angeles

That block date of 8M does not match that Atlanta Plant vin sequence. I based the estimate of April-May on a known Marti Report with 9A41Q223xxx which is an April 2 1969 build car. All of the regular production Talladegas were built in Atlanta are Jan/Feb cars. The last one built is 9A46Q207117 end of February. Perhaps the vin starts with a 1 rather than a 2? or even more likely 20xxxx  The only other scenario is the block was cast and not assigned a vin until 5 months later. This would be extremely rare and not the norm certainly considering how many 69 CJ cars were built. You could always try to get a Marti Report for the engine which is not a bad thing to have if and when it is considered to be sold.
I would suspect your block dates would fall in the  March to May time frame Grant.

Tom it would have the same intake as the other production 428 Cobra Jet and Police Intercerptor cars built April 1968 to July of 1970.

Honestly, one of the best features of this web site is the id section. I've had my Mach1 since 1975, non original motor. I couldn't even get a good idea of what I was looking for yet alone find it until I found this site. I'm not kidding, I buy more correct parts per year now than I had bought in the previous 30 years.
I realize the temptation to dive right in asking questions. But I would suggest that you take a notebook & go thru your drivetrain parts that you have. I mean the CJ/SCJ specific parts.
Get that stuff rolling first, they'll take longer to source. The body stuff is a bit easier to find. Write down every casting part number you find. Then look up that part in the id section. Go back to your parts & separate them into categories. You pick, maybe CJ part but not for a 70, 70 part but not CJ, CJ but not SCJ etc. Keep going until you're done. Above all else, don't throw nothing away until you've accurately identified it & decided that there is no way that you'll be using it. Even doing that, if your car is nearly driveable. Save FE parts in case you want to put a 390 or 428 together so you can enjoy your car while you search for what you need. Oh, the sorting of parts gives you some time to think about how correct you want to make your car & to check your bank account. ;D Yes this will cost some money, maybe even alot of money. JMHO

Yup, casting dates will be different. 1970 Shelby's were actually re-titled 1969's. First thing, get a Marti report on your car. I was hesitant to buy one at first but in reality it will give you so many clues & hints as to how your car was built that it is indispensable.
