8B13 is the earliest I have seen. This pair is in my garage right now. I doubt there were any earlier dates. This set was used for dyno testing of the first batch.

The 135 series cars used C8AE 6090-J heads.

+2 8B for me as well. Kerry is in the midst of moving or I'm sure he would chime in. He's my go to guy for dates on parts.

I have a set of 8B dated heads with the up/down 8 exhaust bolt pattern as in full size Ford/Mercury ... police interceptor I suspect.

No, those were never used in a PI. Ford made The C8AE-J heads and the C80E-N heads with 8 bolt exhaust pattern because there was still a steady demand for replacement 427 Low Riser heads. A lot of cars using the 427 Low Riser had been made, particularly in 1963 - 65 and were still in use in 1968.

The head was a "service part" to at least '75 and then it would depend on popularity to continue being a service part. I bought a pair from Ford in '75 with a '75 casting date ( 16 bolt head).

Ok Randy. Make us groan now. What was the Ford price for these "new" service CJ heads? Were they bare or complete? Btw, was the quality/performance the same as the original era heads? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Grant I had a dealer cost plus 10% deal back then and the heads were $53 ea Bare with intake valves ( as they were serviced) as I recall. List was like $76. The parts were fine but the valve seats were "sunk" when compared to an assembly line head. They were for an NHRA "Stock eliminator" car and it took allot of 'manipulation" to get them to flow well and still be "legal". A service 428 block was about $300 my cost and a 427 SO ( hyd lifter) was $465 back then.

There was a set of CJ heads in the boxes from that era for sale at Columbus last month no valves, $1500 was the asking price.

I owned a set of C80E 6090-N heads with 1974 casting dates. The C80E 6090-N casting was so muddy it was barely legible. Again service replacement heads, sold over the counter. Because there was still a healthy demand in Ford parts departments across the country.
